About Ross Island
Renamed Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep, Ross Island was the administrative headquarters of the British settlement until an earthquake and the Second World War emptied it. What is left — a church, a bakery, the chief commissioner's residence — stands half-swallowed by banyan roots, with deer and peacocks wandering between them. It is a short boat ride from Port Blair and usually paired with North Bay.
